Aliwal Shoal is famous for its sharks. From June to November the Ragged Tooth sharks (Sand Tigers) provide exciting experiences. Read about them below. Once the Ragged Tooth sharks leave during November, the other sharks make their presence felt. Schooling hammerheads are abundant in the summer months. The occasional Zambezi (bull shark) pays a visit and sometimes you may be blessed with a large tiger shark. Very occasionally a great white will make an appearance and then we break out the champagne and party. The seasonal visits are eagerly awaited  and you should give us a call or email to see what is going down now. The Ragged tooth sharks at Aliwal Shoal display unique behavior in the area and attract many local and international divers. They appear from June to November in large numbers for mating. During this time they are slow moving and territorial allowing divers to view them closely. Divers should observe them whilst not disturbing them.
